Brian Barnwell

BIOGRAPHY

Brian was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He attended Presbyterian College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He attended the University of South Carolina School of Law where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and served as an Articles Editor for the South Carolina Law Review.

After law school, Brian spent 11 years practicing law at a prominent defense firm in Columbia, South Carolina. During that time, he gained invaluable experience defending a wide variety of cases, including complex business litigation, class actions, consumer financial services, insurance coverage and bad faith, and products liability. Brian has handled cases in the majority of South Carolina’s 46 counties, the South Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, the District Court of South Carolina, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the American Arbitration Association. Brian uses the skills he learned working on the defense side of the bar to obtain the best possible results for his clients.

In addition to practicing law, Brian has served on the South Carolina State Ethics Commission since 2014, and he served as its chairman from 2017 through 2019. Brian lives on a farm in Eastover, South Carolina with his wife and two sons. Brian and his wife are passionate about giving back to the community, and together they helped to found the Calvary, which is an organization that raises money for cancer patients in the Midlands of South Carolina.
