Senate Passes the Honoring Our PACT Act to aid Veterans Exposed to Toxic Chemicals
On August 2nd, 2022, congress officially passed the Honoring Our PACT Act. The bill expands disability benefits and healthcare resources for veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals during their service including those harmed by the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune.
The legislation will allow veterans and their families to file lawsuits seeking compensation from the federal government. Once signed by President Biden, individuals harmed by the water at Camp Lejeune will be able to begin filing claims.
Time will be limited to file a claim, so we encourage anyone who fits the criteria to call our law firm immediately. If you or someone you know lived, worked, or served at Camp Lejeune between August 1953 and December 1987, please call 803-978-6111 to talk with our legal team.
Camp Lejeune Compensation Criteria
Between the early 1950’s and late 1980’s, Camp Lejeune’s drinking water was contaminated with toxic chemicals. Exposure to these chemicals has been linked to severe illnesses and health conditions. An estimated 1 million veterans, civilians, and their family members were exposed to these toxins.
Health effects include multiple types of cancer, miscarriages, and birth defects. We encourage anyone who has suffered any type of unexplained illness or injury after living at Camp Lejeune during the time period for at least 30 days to see if you’re eligible for compensation. Click here for a complete list of health effects the ATSDR has linked to water exposure.
The contaminated water impacted Camp Lejeune and the surrounding residential areas. Individuals who served at Marine Corps Air Station New River and the surrounding areas could have also been exposed to the toxic water. Below is a map of potential polluted areas.
